Description of the on-line SUVIM FTP site

In the ftp client, click on the stations name, you can choose the year.

When you click on one specific year, the folders corresponding to specific sensors are shown. Each folder is a set of measurement files, for example:
in 2009, 2009/Bentham, contains the file  01061100.gsa.

  • 01 corresponds to the month (January)
  • 06 corresponds to the day in this month
  • Two first digits correspond to the hour
  • Two last digits correspond to the minute for which the measurement was taken
  • ".gsa" is an extension specific to each instrument

How to extract and download large amounts of SUVIM data arranged either by station, by year of by instrument using the FTP client

How to download multiple files by FTP ?

  1. Use the FTP client, for example :  "Filezilla", "WSFTP", "SmartFTP", "CoreFTP","CuteFTP", "Fetch",""YumiFTP","Transmit","GFTP","Cyberduck", etc.
    1. Choose the platform  (Linux, Mac, Windows) and select the  "recommended" version
    2. Download this
    3. Save the installation file
  2. Install ftp client by running the installation file following the usual installation procedures (differ slightly from platform).
    Any installation problems can be solved using the ftp client documentation.
  3. Open the FTP client and connect to the SUVIM data server using the following parameters :
    1. Host : ulisse.busoc.be
    2. Username: anonymous
    3. Password : no password
  4. Click to connect.
  5. Select the desired folder on the FTP side
  6. Open it to visualize its files
  7. Select the requested files using “CTRL + CLICK”  in order to select multiple files.
  8. Transfer them to your local folder using the right click with the “download” option.
